Should a student be considered a "customer"?

I feel that students should definitely be considered a customer.  The student is paying money for a product (education) and the provider (colleges and universities) are accepting money to provide a service (education).  It is the provider’s responsibility to provide the education and the student’s responsibility is to learn the materials provided.
